Barbara Zanelli - Philadelphia Artist

STATEMENT

Through my art I seek to explore themes found in our most celebrated poetry, music and theater: idealism, ambition, lust, hope, compassion, love, fear. As a contemporary realist painter, I build on the traditions learned from Academic painting. Through a combination of intuition and learned technique from Master teachers, I am creating my own "voice" to satisfy both myself and those viewing my work. Through speed and an element of randomness, combined with knowledge and experience, I seek to bridge dichotomies of the art world - Modernism and Realism, Expressionism and Formalism - even life itself, directly into my technique.
